About us
STōN-3D is a mom-and-pop startup run by Tereza and Nathan out of Prague, Czech Republic. Yes, we actually build 3D printers. No, we don’t have a marketing department. You’re reading this because Nathan typed it at 2am between firmware builds.
Tereza holds a master’s degree in International Trade from a top Czech university and brings years of HR experience. She speaks several languages and is an avid maker in her own right — teaching classes in intricate knitting, wax candles, kids’ crafts, organic soaps and cosmetics. She takes carbon footprint seriously, keeps Nathan organized (mostly), and is a badass wife and mother of four. STōN-3D exists because she handles everything Nathan can’t. Which is a lot.
Nathan is under-qualified and over-experienced. Originally from the USA, he spent his younger years at a custom hot-rod shop building race and show cars. Then six years as a senior developer at Prusa Research, where he learned that great machines come from people who care more about the product than the spreadsheet. Now he builds the STōN-WoLF one at a time in Prague. He’s better with a wrench than a keyboard, prefers solving problems over talking about them, and will absolutely stay up until 4am debugging a stepper driver because “it sounded weird at 180mm/s.”
The Kids — four of them, including a newborn — are the reason this company exists and also the reason it sometimes takes a while to reply to emails.
Why We Do This
It started as a dream. Build a machine we’d actually want to own. Use real parts. Make it open source. Don’t cut corners. Sell it honestly.
Then demand exploded and reality hit. Suppliers were late. Certifications cost more than expected. The learning curve for international shipping nearly broke us. We made every mistake a first-time hardware startup can make, and a few nobody warned us about.
We’re still here.
We’re not trying to be the next Prusa or Bambu. We’re a small shop that builds a fast, serious machine for people who actually use their printers. One at a time. Built right. If we grow, great. If we stay small, that’s fine too. The machine is what matters.
If all goes as planned, we’d like to open manufacturing in the USA — ideally using local materials and labor. One step at a time.
Open Source
Hardware: CC-BY-SA-4.0. Software: GPL-3.0. GitHub: github.com/STON-PRINTERS
We use Klipper, OrcaSlicer, Mainsail, and Linux. All open source. It would be wrong to keep our stuff closed. So we don’t.
Thank You
We salute everyone involved with Klipper, OrcaSlicer, Voron Design, LDO Motors, Vez3D, BigTreeTech, and Mainsail. Without your work and inspiration, none of this would be possible.
Special thanks to Martan, our CNC machinist and friend, who runs the HAAS machines that cut every frame. And to our landlord, who told Nathan to stop worrying about rent and keep building.
Questions?
We answer everything. Sometimes slowly. But always.
